Should You Move Your Appliances?

The question of whether or not to move appliances comes up frequently. The decision can be based on several factors, all of which can be determined before the move. Today, we’re going to review how to decide whether to keep old appliances or move them.

Will it fit in the new residence?

The appliance needs to be able to fit into the physical space which it’s intended to occupy. Appliances are often squeezed into tight-fitting spaces, meaning they should be measured carefully before the move. A refrigerator which is too wide or tall, for example, is going to create a problem.

That refrigerator sure is pretty there, but make certain you’ll be able to fully open both doors.

Beyond that, your gas dryer or range isn’t going to work in your new home if it’s all-electric. Sure, you could have your new place modified, but that’s expensive if it’s even an option.

Will it match the existing decor and other appliances?

If the new place already has one or more appliances, their color may hold the key to whether or not you move your existing machines. While new appliances can be expensive, you may be happier to spend the money to have appliances which match than to live with a mismatched kitchen.

Age

Older appliances have a higher chance of having a mechanical problem than newer ones. If you have an old machine and move it, you’re going to be unhappy if it breaks down a few weeks or months after the move. So, age is a factor, and it’s worth considering the age of the unit before a move.

Distance

The distance of the move will also be worth consideration. The further the move, the more it will cost. This cost should be compared to the price of a new one which will fit into the dimensions and decor of the new place.

Other considerations are things such as how quickly you’ll want your appliances after a move. A family with five kids is going to want to be able to do laundry immediately, for example. New machines will also come with a delivery and set-up charge, which should also be figured into the equation. If you’re on a slim budget, that may be the deciding factor on whether or not to keep the old appliances.

Sometimes the space allotted for appliances is limited and non negotiable.

Sometimes a new residence may have existing appliances. If you determine you want to keep your old machine, the current devices should be sold, donated, or given away.

Moving isn’t easy, but deciding whether or not to move an old appliance, keep the machines which come with the new place or buy new devices can be a more manageable decision of you review the considerations listed above.
